A really long time!! We expect our mixed breed dogs to have hybrid vigor – all the benefits of all the components without the concentration of negative traits that happens when humans interfere with breeding. In reality, all the other things we do to our pets (knowingly or unknowingly) has a profound effect on the longevity of the Canardly breed (canardly tell what it is – get it?). Let’s take my Lady dog as an example. We adopted her when she was about a year old – don’t know for sure. She’s the bearded Lady – we call her an Airgle – Airedale-Beagle, but who really knows? She’s about 12 years old. Lady has had food allergies since I first adopted her – itch and lick, itch and lick. Then, I finally learned tons about food and allergies and switched her to a raw diet. Walla! Fixed. BUT – 4 years later, Lady is blind as a result of the allergies – she has sudden acquired retinal degeneration. So, the “great” food I had fed her years before the raw – made her blind because it didn’t stop the allergies. So, one would think my vigorous, fuzzy, bearded Lady’s life may be shortened because of what I fed her. She should live 15-18 years. That’s my hope for all mixed breed dogs.
